In 1981, I was an engineer at RR Donnelley & Sons working on a fancy idea to prepare pictures and text for printing using a computer instead of film. One of my efforts was to write imaging software for a strange thermal printing device. It turns out that this device (and many problems that both the author and I experienced) is the subject of the earliest post saved in Google's new news group archive. I'm having deep nostalgia.
